North STAR Big Band

North STAR Big Band is a Nordplus intensive course that brings together Nordic and Baltic jazz students and teachers.

Big band is the representative collective in jazz music, but due to the nature of large ensembles it is challenging for relatively small institutions to offer classical big band in their study programmes. The project offers the students an opportunity to participate in a high level international big band under the guidance of acclaimed teaching staff who are simultaneously active musicians.

The work will be conducted with an entire band, in various instrument groups and individually. Through practical music-making the students will enhance their skills in interpretation and improvisation. The course will end with public concerts.
