Workshop Open class <\/p>\n Jeremy Nedd is an acclaimed choreographer, dancer, and sound designer based in Basel, Switzerland, whose artistic practice is characterised by an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation. He is widely recognised for his ability to dismantle traditional boundaries in dance, seamlessly integrating diverse movement lexicons with profound cultural and social commentary. Nedd\u2019s contributions to the field have been celebrated with notable accolades, including the New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award for his performance in Kyle Abraham’s The Radio Show, and most recently, the prestigious Swiss Performing Arts Award in 2023. These honours emphasise his status as a leading voice whose work continuously redefines the expressive potential of dance today.<\/p>\n Nedd’s unique artistic voice arises from a diverse and rich background. His early training laid a strong foundation in classical ballet and contemporary dance, which he further developed through notable professional roles with esteemed European companies like the Semperoper in Dresden and Ballett Basel. What truly sets his work apart is his genuine engagement with urban and social dance styles. Nedd carefully explores, analyses, and reinterprets what he calls “marginalized movement languages,” enhancing their complexity, power, and cultural importance often overlooked in modern art contexts. This elegant fusion of classical discipline with the vibrant energy and storytelling of street and social dances is at the heart of his innovative choreographic approach.<\/p>\n Beyond his key collaboration with Impilo Mapantsula, the South African collective specialising in Pantsula dance, which has produced acclaimed works like The Ecstatic and blue nile to the galaxy around olodumare, Jeremy Nedd has built a network of meaningful artistic partnerships. He has notably worked as a guest performer with Trajal Harrell at Schauspielhaus Z\u00fcrich, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to interdisciplinary artistic exchange. His productions, such as from rock to rock aka how magnolia was taken for granite, often feature a strong ensemble of performers including artists like Brandy Butler, Nasheeka Nedsreal, and Zen Jefferson, further enriching his choreographic vision. Behind the scenes, his collaborators include sound designers such as Fabrizio Di Salvo and Rej Deproc, stage designers like Laura Kn\u00fcsel, and dramaturgs such as Anta Helena Recke, all contributing to the meticulously crafted, immersive experiences that characterise Jeremy Nedd’s influential body of work.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This workshop is open to external participants<\/strong> as part of the CPPM Professional Development series, and artists from all fields of the performing arts are warmly invited to join, to deepen their practice, refresh their creative tools, and connect with an international artistic community.<\/p>\n You will participate in the workshop alongside students of the\u00a0MA in Contemporary Physical Performance Making (CPPM)\u00a0at the\u00a0Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT). Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate of attendance issued by EAMT, which will specify the workshop title, tutors, and the total number of contact hours completed.<\/p>\n Please note that places at this workshop are very limited, so we strongly recommend applying early.
