MA in Contemporary Physical Performance Making (CPPM) is a ground-breaking course that takes postgraduate education out of the classroom and puts practical experience with world-leading makers of performance at the heart of the learning process. Students are working alongside some of the most exciting directors, choreographers, performance makers, artists and companies across the world to further their own artistic practice through active collaboration, devising and performance. It is very important to us that all those international students who study the CPPM curriculum and those world-renowned performance makers who come to Estonia to teach them in Estonia, do not just stay between the four walls of the academy. CPPM Open Class is a series of events where anyone interested can take a look at the otherwise hidden rehearsal and creative processes. At the end of each open class, interviews with the guests will also take place to reveal even more about their creative processes.<\/p>\n

For thirty-six years Pina Bausch was the creative nucleus of the Tanztheater Wuppertal<\/strong>. With her keen interest in human existence, an unbiased and constantly inquisitive eye, and impressive faith in her own aesthetic sensibility, together with her dancers and artistic collaborators she created a total of forty-four pieces. Their poetry, powerful images and ingenuity result from an examination of real life.
\nThis is seen particularly clearly in Pina Bausch\u2019s working methods, asking her dancers simple, personal questions and using the answers, in the form of stories, movements or scenes, to create her pieces. Her feeling for authenticity was reflected in the stage sets of Peter Pabst and Rolf Borzik, in which elemental materials such as earth, grass and water left visible marks on the movements and costumes of the dancers. The international co-productions were also the result of intensive research processes. Whether Italy, Japan, Brazil, Hong Kong or Turkey, every country the company discovered on their extended residencies influenced the Tanztheater Wuppertal\u2019s pieces culturally and aesthetically.<\/p>\n

Eddie Martinez<\/strong> was born and raised in Newton, Kansas. He graduated from the Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas and moved to NYC where he worked with several companies for 7 years. Since 1995, he has worked in the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch where he has performed in pieces such as “Palermo Palermo”, “\u00c1gua”, “Arias”, “Bamboo Blues”, “…como el musguito en la piedra, ay si, si, si…” , “Der Fensterputzer”, “Nur Du”, “Ten Chi”, “Two Cigarettes in the Dark”, “Wiesenland”, “Die Sieben Tods\u00fcnden”, “Iphigenie auf Tauris” , “Komm tanz mit mir”, “Legend of Chastity”, “Auf dem Gebirge hat man ein Geschrei Geh\u00f6rt\u201d, “Ahnen”, “Nef\u00e9s”, “Masurca Fogo”, “Das St\u00fcck mit dem Schiff”, “Bon Voyage, Bob”, “1980 \u2013 Ein St\u00fcck von Pina Bausch”. Since 2012 Eddie has begun to find his love for teaching workshops and choreographing.<\/p>\n
