Liisa Randalu<\/a> was born in Tallinn, Estonia and grew up in Karlsruhe, Germany. After studying the violin in Stuttgart for two years, she continued her studies on the viola at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Roland Glassl and later at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin under Prof. Friedemann Weigle (former Artemis Quartet). She also studied String Quartet and Chamber Music at the Cologne University of Music with Prof. Harald Schoneweg (Cherubini Quartet) and at the Reina Sofia School of Music Madrid with Prof. G\u00fcnter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet).<\/p>\n

For almost 10 years until 2022, Liisa Randalu was the violist of the Schumann Quartett\u2014winner of the Schubert Competition Graz 2012, the Grand Prix of the \u201eQuatuors a Bordeaux\u201c Competition 2013, the J\u00fcrgen-Ponto-Prize 2014 and the BBC Newcomer Award in 2016. The Quartett played regularly at halls including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Konzerthaus and Musikverein Vienna as well as at all major renown festivals in and outside of Europe. Their CD \u201eLandscapes\u201c got the German Record Critics\u2019 Award in 2017 and the album \u201eIntermezzo\u201c together with soprano Anna Lucia Richter won the Opus Klassik Award in 2019. Schumann Quartett has been the Artist in Residence with its\u2019 own series \u201eErstklassik\u201c at the Robert-Schumann-Saal in D\u00fcsseldorf as well as the artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York.<\/p>\n

As a soloist and chamber musician Liisa Randalu has won several international competitions and played with orchestras such as the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Estonina National Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n

Since 2022 Liisa Randalu holds the Solo Viola position at the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester.<\/p>\n

Beside her orchestra engagement she is also the violist of the Albrecht Mayer Quartet and plays regularly concerts in this formation. Future projects will include collaborations with fellow artists like Diana Tishchenko, Eckart Runge, Istv\u00e1n V\u00e1rdai, Fabian M\u00fcller and Pablo Barragan. Furthermore she teaches at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.<\/p>\n
