Janusz Olejniczak<\/a> (1952, Wroc\u0142aw) studied in Warsaw and \u0141\u00f3d\u017a with Luiza Walewska, Ryszard Bakst and Zbigniew Drzewiecki, as well as in Paris and Switzerland with Witold Malcu\u017cy\u0144ski. He graduated from the High School of Music in Warsaw in 1974 in the class of Barbara Hesse-Bukowska, and continued his studies with Victor Merzhanov in Warsaw and Paul Badura-Skoda in Essen (1977\u201378).<\/p>\nJanusz Olejniczak performs in the leading concerts halls in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia, including the Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonic, Teatro Col\u00f3n in Buenos Aires, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Tokyo\u2019s Suntory Hall, Washington\u2019s Lincoln Center, Tonhalle in D\u00fcsseldorf, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. For four years he has taught at the Music Academy in Cracow. He has also sat on numerous piano competitions juries and given masterclasses in Canada, Japan, Colombia, and at the Mozart Academy in Salzburg.<\/p>\n
His repertoire centers on the works of Chopin, Bach, Schubert, Schumann and Liszt. His interpretations of twentieth-century works have also been acclaimed, including Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev, Messiaen, Shostakovich, Henryk Miko\u0142aj G\u00f3recki, Wojciech Kilar, and Witold Lutos\u0142awski. He is an avid chamber musician, and has appeared with orchestras conducted by Witold Rowicki, Andrzej Markowski, Kazimierz Kord, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Tadeusz Struga\u0142a, Charles Dutoit, Andrzej Borejko, Grzegorz Nowak, Jacek Kaspszyk, Marek Pijarowski, Marek Mo\u015b and others. In recent years he has also given concerts and recorded on historical instruments (\u00c9rard and Pleyel), often collaborating with the Orchestra of the 18th<\/sup> Century of Frans Br\u00fcggen. At the Chopin and His Europe Festival in Warsaw, he appeared with the Orchestre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe.<\/p>\nApart from an extensive Chopin repertoire, Janusz Olejniczak has also recorded works by Rameau, Mozart, Schubert, Prokofiev, Kilar, G\u00f3recki and Lutos\u0142awski, Ravel and Shostakovich. In recognition of his outstanding musical achievements, he has received eight Fryderyk Awards of the Polish recording industry, as well as the Officer\u2019s Cross of the Polonia Restituta (2000) and the Gloria Artis Gold Medal (2005).<\/p>\n
Janusz Olejniczak has also recorded best-selling soundtracks for two famous movies: Roman Pola\u0144ski\u2019s The Pianist<\/em> and Andrzej \u017bu\u0142awski\u2019s La note bleue<\/em>, additionally appearing in the latter as an actor playing role of Frederick Chopin.<\/p>\nIn 2015 he sat on the jury of the Frederick Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw. He runs a\u00a0piano class at the Frederic Chopin Music University in Warsaw.<\/p>\n
