Johan Fröst is a prize-winning pianist, having secured first place at the St. Charles International Piano Competition in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1997, and earlier, at the Scandinavian Piano Competition in 1990. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in piano performance from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 2001.

Dr. Fröst has performed alongside many distinguished instrumentalists and conductors. In addition to his extensive performances across Canada and the USA, he has given concerts throughout Scandinavia, Europe, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia, and has appeared at several international music festivals in Europe and the USA. His upcoming performances (2024–2025) include venues such as Wigmore Hall in England and Martigny, Switzerland. In the USA, he founded the Mimir Chamber Music Festival in Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as artistic director from 1998 to 2000.

Dr. Fröst has made notable recordings featuring piano and chamber music, including works by Stravinsky, Rachmaninov, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Chick Corea. In 1992, he received his soloist diploma from the Academy of Music in Stockholm and made his debut the same year with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. His recordings can be found on the labels Ton-Art Production, Court House Music, and Tangent 89.

Currently, Dr. Fröst is an associate professor of piano in the classical music department at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. He also leads the research project “Music as Script” (MAS), which explores classical art music in relation to visualizations and investigates the intermodal connections between hearing and sight.
