Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy

The primary mission of instrumental and vocal pedagogy studies at EAMT is to train outstanding teachers for music schools and to offer additional refresher courses to working teachers to improve their skills.

Students can choose between two programmes – musical instrument teaching and instrumental and vocal pedagogy – that can be studied at bachelor and master level.

In the course of their studies, students acquire theoretical knowledge and practical pedagogical skills to work successfully as teachers of musical instruments in music schools and institutions of intermediate music education. The selection of courses provides the students with a good foundation to cope with a variety of pedagogical challenges. As mastery of a musical instrument is a prerequisite for any good teacher, both curricula understandably include training in playing that instrument.

The pedagogy unit is also responsible for teaching specialist teaching methodology courses to music interpretation majors to help them enhance the playing skills of young musicians with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience.

International conferences are regularly organised, where in addition to faculty members, specialists from other local and foreign institutes provide input. Student conferences, where the best master theses are presented, are organised on a regular basis. Collaborative ties also exist with many of the other academy professors and visiting professors.

Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy Programme is currently only offered in Estonian.
