KAREN SOFIE FOSS (Norway) masterclass “Moments of the Wind”
18-21 November @10.00-11.30 & 12.30-14.00 in C-405
Karen Sofie Foss, a dance artist and teacher, will share her experiences on how to work creatively with movement, dance, sound, and music, involving amateurs in the process. Her work draws on a wide range of knowledge and observations, from codified ballet, jazz, and modern dance to today’s diverse contemporary dance. A key focus is on exploring the relationships between dance and music, movement and sound.
No prior dance experience is required.
The master classes include learning simple dance steps in context, engaging in tasks and reflection, and encouraging critical thinking. Participants will also be physically involved, contributing to the examples presented. Karen Sofie Foss will share and discuss her strategies, observations, and experiences with the participants, focusing on the dance pedagogy she has developed through her work with amateurs of all ages:
“I approach dance, music, movement, and sound with curiosity, constantly questioning in order to expand my perspective on the phenomena I’m working with. This allows me to explore traditional dance and music while also making surprising discoveries and gaining fresh, innovative insights into what dance is and how music is perceived. I love to creatively turn things upside down! When I enter into the process, I often ask: What if…?”
