Ramutė Kalnėnaitė studied cello under Romanas Armonas at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art. During her school years, she won several national competitions and her first international competition. From 1975 to 1980, she pursued her studies at the Moscow State Conservatory, where she earned qualifications as a performer, pedagogue, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. She continued her cello studies at the conservatory from 1980 to 1982, spending all seven years in Moscow under the guidance of Professor Stefan Kaljanov.
Since 1983, Kalnėnaitė has been teaching cello at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, and since 2012, she has also been a faculty member at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
In 1984, she won first prize in an international music competition. She has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls across the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, France, Switzerland, Belarus, Uzbekistan, the United States, and Russia. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, the String Orchestra of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, and the Chamber Orchestra of the Tashkent State Conservatory.
Kalnėnaitė has participated in numerous national and international music festivals, including the Thomas Mann Festival Alternative, Kristupo Vasaros Festivalis, and Summers in Druskininkai with M. K. Čiurlionis in both France and Lithuania. As a chamber musician, she has performed with renowned Lithuanian and international artists.
