With around 30 years of experience in opera, Annette Weber-Hussain combines artistic expertise as a stage director and casting director with in-depth knowledge of opera management. She currently works as a coach for young singers, focusing on authenticity, the joy of storytelling, and confident stage presence.
From 2021 to 2025, she served as Director of Opernhaus Zürich, following her role as Casting Director of the Staatsoper Hamburg (2018–2021). Prior to that, she was Advisor to the Artistic Administration at the Semperoper Dresden (2013–2018), specialising in artistic planning and casting. Earlier roles include being personal assistant to director Stefan Herheim (2010–2016), assistant director at Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin (2004–2010), and at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (1997–2004).
Annette holds a background in theatre studies and musicology from the University of Mainz, where she studied from 1996 to 1999.
As a jury member in various singing competitions, she has gained valuable insights into the artistic development of young talents. Her mission is to help preserve opera as a living, vibrant art form – through singers who live their profession with passion and joy.
