Within his career, Sergio Castrillón has been developing the practice of improvisation within diverse music territories and genres, as well as collaborating in different performing and visual art projects that include artistic research, education and science. Castrillón works as a part time teacher at the Global Music department at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki University of the Arts), holding subjects such as Cross-Genre Improvisation, Experimental Improvisation for musicians and dancers, solo cello improvisation, and individual artistic and research tuitions related to composition, improvisation, performance, cultural identity and artistic identity. Since 2011, Castrillon has been teaching and assisting diverse practical and theoretical courses as visiting lecturer within different scopes and institutions in Europe and South America, such as  Laponia Improvisations, Music Technology department of the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki Theatre Academy, Helsinki Fine Arts Academy, University of Helsinki, Helsinki Conservatory, Music Academy of Oslo, Estonian Academy of Music and Theater, Tartu Heino Eller Academy, Basel University, FLUSS Austria, University of Caldas, Javeriana University, Conservatori del Liceu Barcelona, ESMUC, Conservatory of Gran Canaria, and Latvian Conservatory, among others.
