Karen Schlimp studied piano pedagogy in Vienna, concert piano in London and improvisation in Leipzig, and continued her education in Taketina rhythm pedagogy, Gestalt pedagogy, composition, bodywork, communication and coaching. She has performed in Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and India, and has an active collaboration with composers and artists in the fields of painting, dance and video art. She teaches ensemble music communication at the University of Music in Vienna and improvisation at the Mozarteum University.
Karen Schlimp’s performance art projects include pianomobile – mobile , music with the bicycle-moving piano and Bahno-pianomobile . She leads workshops on the subjects of improvisation, fine arts and music constellations and works in school classes as well as in adult education. She has been playing contemporary live music for silent films for 10 years and she has set more than 30 films to music.
Since 1996 she has been a lecturer at the Bruckner University in Linz and at the Music University in Vienna. In 2009 she qualified as a professor in improvisation at the Bruckner University in Linz.
