Liana Chonishvili is a prominent Georgian choral conductor, educator and cultural leader. Since 2014, she has served as the founder and Chair of the Georgian Choral Society. She is a Professor and Head of the Academic Choir Conducting Department at the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire (TSC), where she also leads the BA, MA, and PhD Performing Arts programmes with a focus on academic choir conducting. Additionally, she has been the artistic director and conductor of the TSC choir since 2002.
Since 2004, she has headed the Choir Conducting Department at the E. Mikeladze Tbilisi Central Music College. She also acts as a consultant for the I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Student Chapel Choir and the Tbilisi Women’s Choir.
In 2015, she founded and became the artistic director of the Annual National Competition for Children’s and Youth Choirs of Georgia. Over the years, she has also led various ensembles, including the TSC Opera Studio Choir, the Tbilisi Youth Choir, and the Tbilisi Festival Choir.
Beyond her academic and artistic leadership, Liana Chonishvili actively promotes choral music across Georgia through concerts, charity projects, and summer schools. She is a laureate and frequent jury member at both Georgian and international choral competitions and festivals.
In addition to her performance and teaching career, she has contributed as a music editor for the first published collections of choral works by renowned Georgian composers Ioseb Kechakmadze and Jemal Beglarishvili.
