Katarzyna Budnik is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she studied violin under Mirosław Ławrynowicz, Andrzej Gębski, and Janusz Wawrowski, and viola with Piotr Reichert. She currently teaches viola at her alma mater. Since February 2014, she has held the position of Principal Viola with the Sinfonia Varsovia.
In 2013, Katarzyna was awarded 3rd prize at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Her exceptional talent has been recognized at numerous other competitions, including 1st prize at the 47th Beethoven’s Hradec Musical Competition (Czech Republic, 2008), 1st prize at the 15th International Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria, 2008), and 1st prize at the 8th National Jan Rakowski Viola Competition (Poland, 2008). Additionally, she received 2nd prize at both the International Max Rostal Competition (Berlin, 2009) and the International Max Reger Chamber Music Competition (Sondershausen, 2009), where she also earned a special prize for her interpretation of Max Reger’s Suite for Solo Viola.
Katarzyna has performed at several renowned festivals, including the Music Festival in Łańcut, the International Chamber Music Festival “Music on the Heights” in Zakopane, and the Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus, where she was invited by Gidon Kremer. She has had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed musicians such as Krystian Zimerman, Gidon Kremer, Tatjana Grindenko, Yuri Bashmet, and Frans Helmerson.
