Sven Birch was born in Denmark and studied piano at the Conservatory of Music in Aarhus with Prof. Aino Gliemann where he completed his education with the soloist diploma. Further studies in Vienna with Alexander Jenner followed as well as masterclasses with distinguished pianists such as Tatjana Nicolajewa, Conrad Hansen, John Lill, Leonid Brumberg and Peter Feuchtwanger.

He is professor of piano at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria and is director of the Institute for Keyboard Instruments. He also taught at the University Mozarteum, Salzburg and is director of the Piano Academy “Center of Piano Art” in Linz.

Birch is a sought-after musician with a wide repertoire ranging from J. S. Bach to contemporary music. He has premiered a large number of solo, chamber music and orchestral works. He is active on worldwide concert tours as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor and tours took him to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, the Faeroe Islands, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Serbia, Turkey, the USA, Iran, Brazil and Japan.

He is a member of the George Crumb Trio Linz, “Ensemble Nord” Copenhagen, Duo Georgiadis/Birch (flute/piano) and conductor and artistic director of the Ensemble “Lezard aux Plumes”. He is often invited for courses and workshops (masterclasses given in Norway, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Poland, England, Ireland, Austria, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Greece, Lithuania, Iran, China) and has made numerous CD, television and radio recordings.
