Gerhard Reichenbach (1965) is widely regarded as one of Europe’s foremost guitar virtuosos. He studied classical guitar under Prof. Dieter Kreidler at the University of Music in Cologne and with Costas Cotsiolis at the Athens Conservatory. A native of Germany and winner of the 1989 Puerto Rico Guitar Competition, Reichenbach is frequently invited to perform solo recitals and orchestral concerts at major international guitar festivals, as well as renowned venues like the Berliner Philharmonie. In 2014, he gave his highly acclaimed debut recital at the International House of Music in Moscow, one of the largest and most prestigious concert halls in the world.
Reichenbach is celebrated not only for his exceptional guitar technique and commanding stage presence but also for his transcriptions of Baroque keyboard music, including J.S. Bach’s First and Third Piano Partitas and Domenico Scarlatti’s harpsichord sonatas. His extensive repertoire spans 35 distinct recital and chamber music programs, as well as 13 concertos for guitar and orchestra. Numerous contemporary compositions have been written for him, many of which he has premiered, such as Buck Wolters’ Twelve Concert Studies for Guitar, Rossen Balkanski’s Balkanska Sonata, and Canto Spirituoso, performed at the 2014 Sinaia International Guitar Festival.
Reichenbach’s transcriptions are published by Schott, Chanterelle, and BalkaNota, and he has released four recordings under the labels Dabringhaus & Grimm, Aurea Vox, and Gega Music.
In addition to his performing career, Gerhard Reichenbach holds a full professorship in guitar at the University of Music Cologne.
