For nearly forty years, Carlos Juris has been a dedicated teacher at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and the Espoo Music College. A native of Quito, Ecuador, he was the final student of the esteemed Ecuadorian professor Memé Dávila de Burbano (1917–1980). He continued his studies in the United States with Clifton Matthews at the North Carolina School of the Arts and later spent a decade in Moscow under the mentorship of Professor Pavel Messner (1931–2005), the principal assistant to Emil Gilels.

Carlos regularly performs with his wife, pianist Hamsa Al-Wadi. In 1997, they presented the Latin American premiere of Max Bruch’s Concerto for Two Pianos, Op. 88a, with the Ecuadorian National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Álvaro Manzano (1955–2022). In Finland, they collaborated extensively with cellist Heikki Rautasalo (1946–2009), performing chamber music together and appearing as soloists under his baton.

Alongside his colleagues Meri Louhos, a distinguished pedagogue who has mentored generations of Finnish pianists, and Hui-Ying Tawaststjerna, Carlos co-authored the instructional book series Pianon Avain / The Piano Key, which has been widely used by young pianists since the 1990s.

He was an active member of the EPTA Finland association for twenty years and continues to serve as a regular juror at international competitions, including the Estonian “Young Musician” competition, where he has been involved since its early years. In 2020, he inaugurated the Beethoven Year celebrations in Quito, Ecuador, shortly before the pandemic forced the cancellation of further events.
