The main objective of teaching chamber music at EAMT is to develop the student’s ensemble skills through various ensemble settings and a broad ensemble repertoire. Chamber music conferences with presentations on developments in the field of chamber ensembles are held regularly and master classes have also become an inseparable part of each conference. The chamber music ensembles form part of a thriving performance community, with opportunities to collaborate both with fellow musicians and artists from other disciplines.
Annual participation at the International Student Chamber Music Festival is an important part of the academic work. The festival regularly extends invitations to international concert producers, and provides an opportunity for the best student ensembles to participate in international concert life.
Faculty members are also active participants in the work of the European Chamber Music Teachers Association, with head of studies Marje Lohuaru currently being the chair of ECMT.
Participation in chamber music competitions has already become a tradition with student ensembles achieving remarkable results. The dedicated concert series From Time to Time features student ensembles. Master classes by leading professionals take place throughout the year.
A new optional course in orchestral practice has been launched which provides guidance and practical advice to piano students for playing in an orchestra.
