Admissions 2021

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre promotes open education and an international study environment. Young talented people, who meet the required standards, are always welcome to study at the EAMT. The number of international students at our Academy has increased rapidly in recent years: out of a total of approximately 630 students about 160 are from other countries than Estonia. Although the main language of instruction at EAMT is Estonian, most of the musical principal subjects as well as cultural management can also be studied in English.

In 2019, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre has made it to the QS World University Ranking, which is one of the top international rankings measuring the popularity and performance of universities all over the world. Being the only music university from Baltic states on the QS list,  EAMT is currently holding the position no 51-100 in the category of performing arts among such reputable music academies as Cologne, Leipzig and Munich (Germany), F. Liszt Music Academy (Hungary) and the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg (Denmark).

Before sending the video recording or traveling to Tallinn for the entrance auditions, you need to submit a formal application together with relevant documents. The application deadline is June 3.
Please take note that the number of additional study places is quite limited.

Live entrance auditions will take place from June 28 until July 1 at EAMT.  The audition/interview lasts approximately 20−30 minutes during which the examination panel will assess your musical skills and potential as well as your English language proficiency. For detailed audition requirements and assessment criteria click on the relevant study programme level in the boxes on the right of this page.

EAMT usually prefers to audition you in person, but due to the current state of emergency caused by the COVID-19 virus that restricts international traveling for some EU countries and most of the non-EU countries, those foreign applicants, to whom traveling is not possible, are strongly encouraged to submit an original video recording of their performance as a substitute for a live audition. However, candidates can only pass the entrance audition by video recording if the examination panel has no doubts about authenticity of the recording, the quality of the recording is sufficient for evaluation and the candidate's performance meets the highest standards, clearly exceeding the admission threshold. You should send your video recording admissions secretary Margit Võsa (, who will also assist you if you wish to receive a subject-specific consultation or have any questions about the admission procedures.

During regular admissions periods, which take place on specific dates in the spring semester, you can also become acquainted with our facilities, meet staff members, observe open classes etc. If you are in doubt as to whether your musical skills meet the required standards, you may send us a video recording of your performance or portfolio of your compositions. If you do this at least 5 weeks before the audition date, you are entitled to receive feedback from us concerning your level of proficiency and whether we recommend that you come to Tallinn for the audition in person.

At the end of the admission period you will be officially informed whether or not you have been accepted to the programme you applied for. If the answer is positive, you need to confirm your decision to study at EAMT. The 2020/2021 academic year starts on 31st of August. Please note that to be formally enrolled, you need to have submitted all the required documents, including the proof of previous qualifications and diplomas.

The application fee is 50 € and normally needs to be paid by bank transfer.

Tuition fees apply to all international students whose language of tuition is English. The fees range from 800 € (students from the EU countries) to 6500 € (students from the non-EU countries) per academic year depending on the study programme and your country of origin. Detailed information about the fees can be found here. A limited number of scholarships are available for international students. Auditions for the scholarships usually take place at the end of September. There is no tuition fee for doctoral studies. Students studying full time at doctoral level have the right to receive a monthly stipend.
