Main Studies (MIX001) Exam Requirements MA

Chamber Ensemble:

The student should perform to an audience at least once or twice during a term, participate in master classes and other events related to the specialty.

Terms 1-2

• Play in an ensemble of at least three members (trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, etc.);
• Learn at least two ensemble works;
• Exam requirements: play at least 30 minutes of chamber music. All presented works are to be performed in their entirety.

Term 3:

• Play in an ensemble of at least three members (trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, etc.);
• Learn at least two ensemble works, of which at least one is by Estonian composer;
• Exam requirements: play at least 30 minutes of chamber music. All presented works are to be performed in their entirety.

Term 4:
Master’s Degree Examination (MIX011)

Compulsory colloquium (for entrance to exam):

– two colloquiums for 2-year masters, two MA exams accordingly

– one colloquium for 1-year masters, one MA exam accordingly

Present one month before exam a text (minimum 1600 characters) with the following structure:

1. Exam program introduction: the historical background of works, publications;
2. Interpretive analysis of musical works; comparative analysis of recordings;
3. How has the chosen program developed you as an artist/musician.

Duration of program is minimum 35 minutes.
