Ēriks Kiršfelds studied at Emīls Dārziņš Music School and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He continued his education at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and graduated from Basel Music Academy. Ēriks currently holds a position of associated professor at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and is the principal cellist of Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. For many years and since the foundation of the orchestra, he was also principal cellist of Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra.
A keen soloist and chamber musician, Ēriks Kiršfelds has made a number of recordings for the Latvian Radio. He is a member of Spīķeru String Quartet collaborating with the German record label Wergo, for whom the quartet has recorded all Peteris Vask’s string quartets on two CDs that were highly acclaimed by the critics. For outstanding ensemble work, in 2009 he won the Grand Music Award, the highest music award in Latvia.
