Núria Andorrà is a percussionist and improviser who feels at ease both in classical and contemporary music. She has collaborated with such orchestras as the Orchestra of the Liceu the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Granollers, Stadtkapelle Karlsruhe, Orchestra Historic Festival Torroella, and performed as percussionist in the Ensemble Metals Reinhold Friedrich and with the quartet Flug Percussion Quartet touring Japan. As a soloist marimba player she has performed with the orchestra “Germinans de Barcelona” and with the percussion ensemble with Isao Nakamura in the “Schloss Ettlingen” (Germany). She has also worked with theater companies such as Dagoll Dagom and the composer Carlos Santos.
Núria works mainly with the contemporary music groups: Icarus Ensemble (Italy), Abstract Ensemble (France), Murtra Ensemble (Catalonia), Barcelona 216 (Catalonia) & Ensemble Obert (Catalonia). She is a member of the artistic committee of Contemporánica Music Ensemble and resident group of Art Center Cal Massó Reus. She has improvised with Le Quan Nihn, Agustí Fernández, Ingar Zahr, Nenad Markovic, Tom Chant and Johannes Nästesjö. She currently shares a project of improvisation and creation with contemporary language with dancer Dory Sánchez.
Núria studied first percussion at ESMUC under Michael Bernard and later at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, supported by the Cultural Government of Catalonia and the Ministry of Education from Spain, under Isao Nakamura and J. Bayer. In Karslsruhe she obtained also as master’s degree in contemporary music under I. Nakamura, J. Brener and Thomas Hoffer. Currently she is researching free improvisation in contemporary music in the UB ESMUC under the guidance of Dr. Magda Polo and Agustí Fernández.
