Kristi Kapten is a prize-winning Estonian pianist. She started her musical education at the age of seven in Tallinn Music High School. From 2006 to 2010 she studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) with Prof. Peep Lassmann, and then became a Master student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), studying under a full scholarship with Prof. Fali Pavri between 2010 and 2012, from which she graduated with a distinction. Between 2013 and 2017 Kristi has been enrolled in Doctoral studies at the EAMT, completing her artistic research on performance issues in Ligeti`s Etudes for Piano.
In 2011 Kristi Kapten won 1st prize in the II Tallinn International Piano Competition. During her studies in Scotland she received prizes in several competitions at the Conservatoire (Jock Holden Memorial Prize for Mozart, Bamber/Galloway Recital Prize, Walcer Prize). Kristi has been awarded scholarships by the Estonian Association of Professional Musicians in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In June 2015 she participated in the EAMT Symphony Orchestra competition and was selected as a soloist to perform Prokofiev`s Piano Concerto No. 2 in the Estonia Concert Hall in April 2016.
Kristi has performed with several orchestras and given recitals in many countries, including Sweden, United Kingdom, China, Finland and Lithuania. Her artistic research has taken her to give lecture-recitals in several international conferences, including the György Ligeti Symposium Helsinki 2017. As a chamber musician she has performed in the Edinburgh International Festival, Glasgow`s Cottier Chamber Project and APAP showcases in New York. Kristi has played in masterclasses with Stefan Arnold, Boris Berman, Leon Fleisher, Steven Osborne and others.
