Composition and Improvisational Music

The Department of Composition and Improvisational Music provides students with a creative atmosphere, rife with cutting-edge and experimental concerts and performances. Our curricula are organized such as to give students independence on the one hand, and provide opportunities for cross-pollination and collaboration on the other. While creative artists need space to work independently, we also realize that composers, electronic musicians, sound designers, contemporary improvisers and performers can benefit from the creative synergy that emerges through collaboration.

We also provide study in the fields of jazz and folk music, which have risen to prominence over the past fifteen years. Students of our department will receive instruction from a wide variety of teachers, who espouse a rich cross-section of esthetic visions.
