JUULI HYTTINEN (Finland)

From the biggest theaters in Finland to children’s puppetry shows, playing the lead role in an opera, and touring with her own circus company, Juuli is a creative force with a rich multidisciplinary background. Her vibrant career spans musicals and plays, working as a show artist in Greece, studies in puppet theatre and object manipulation, and extensive touring across Finland with theatre and circus productions.

A career in the performing arts once seemed impossible to her as a child, even though she competed passionately in aesthetic group gymnastics. The spark for artistic expression was ignited through a role in a school musical, and working in musicals became her dream. However, a series of unexpected turns led her to the world of circus, where genres impose no limits on expression. Her work is driven by openness, curiosity, and an enthusiasm for exploring new directions and modes of performance.

Combining voice and movement lies at the core of her artistic expression. Juuli’s work bridges classical and contemporary styles, captivating audiences with her storytelling and innovative approach to performance. She challenges herself by exploring ways to merge vocal performance and physicality. With a unique ability to adapt her artistry to a variety of disciplines, she combines dynamic stage presence with deep emotional resonance.

Juuli is one of the founders of Säilättäret, a collective that blends musical theatre with circus arts. Established in 2020, Säilättäret has grown into one of Finland’s most prominent contemporary circus ensembles. Their shows are crafted to engage audiences in diverse venues, making art more accessible to everyone.

Touring performances are a particular source of inspiration for Juuli, as every venue offers new opportunities and challenges. Her ambition is to expand her work internationally and create site-specific pieces that breathe new life into unconventional spaces through art.

Juuli is committed to continually developing her skills in the performing arts. She is intrigued by the possibilities of movement and physical theatre, as well as the seamless integration of voice and body. Her commitment to collaboration and pushing artistic boundaries makes her a vital contributor to every project she undertakes, whether it’s the grandeur of a musical or the intimate magic of object manipulation.
