What if I tell you that somewhere in the North-East a new geological formation has been rising from the ground every day for the past 100 years or so.

A geological formation of human-made black mountains consisting of ashes and burned rocks from oil shale production.

Human-made artificial mountains, as the absolute image of what the anthropocene is:
A geological age in which human activity dominates all living and non-living matter.

Burnout – a gesture is a performance occupied with questions of how humans and the more-than-humans evolve, if living by the physical circumstances of the current energy production. How can we accept and live with the human-made monsters of the anthropocene instead of denying and displacing them?

Through choreographic gestures the performance brings, what otherwise operates in the periphery, to the centre stage of our focus. With a speculative physical practice it is searching for embodied sensitivities towards a toxic landscape of black mountains.

NB! Practical information!

The performance will start at 18.00 in front of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn. From here, a bus will take you to Kiviõli Tuhamägi, with an expected arrival at 19.45. The performance will take place on the ash mountain for approximately 1h 15 min. The bus will leave Kiviõli around 21.00 and take you back to the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with an expected arrival time of 22.45.

As the performance will take place on an ash mountain and require moving around in the area, we advise audiences to wear comfortable outdoor shoes and clothing suitable for the weather on a specific day, as there is no cover/shelter nearby.

There will be toilet facilities on the bus.

Unfortunately, the performance is not suited to people with movement restrictions and disabilities.
