DITA LURINA (Latvia)

Dita Lūriņa (1978) has worked in theatre for twenty-five years, performing at the Latvian National Theatre since 2000. Twice awarded Best Young Stage Artist at the Latvian Theatre Awards and nominated five times for Actress of the Year, she received the Order of the Three Stars in 2017 for her contribution to Latvian professional theatre, and the Lilita Bērziņa Award in 2024 for her sustained work in leading roles.

Alongside acting she has increasingly worked as a director, drawn to visual and physical performance rather than text-led staging. Her practice has moved steadily towards making – building work from the body, from materials, and from the specific conditions of a place. That shift is what brought her to CPPM. Out of the programme came WalkYourChair, an international independent performance collective working in public space, now her main site-specific platform as a co-author.

Her current research turns toward para-curatorial practice: how performance is framed, gathered and held, and what it means to be a maker who also shapes the conditions around the work.
