JUULI HYTTINEN (Finland)
Juuli Hyttinen (1991) A Finnish performing artist with a background in musical theatre, Juuli brings its craft into dialogue with contemporary performance, creating work where playfulness and emotional honesty exist side by side.
A chameleon with a magpie’s curiosity, she collects skills and influences across artistic disciplines, building crooked little bridges between contemporary art and entertainment. Her practice moves freely between movement, live music, theatre, and contemporary art, with an ongoing fascination with objects, materials, and what they can do in performance. She creates theatrical mixtapes where familiar forms suddenly take unexpected turns.
The southernmost soul from the north, she carries a touch of stubbornness and a quiet rebellion against the proper and the expected. Her approach is rooted in craftsmanship: creating work that feels welcoming without becoming predictable. She believes ambitious art can be both challenging and deeply approachable.
Juuli is also one of the founders of Säilättäret, a collective blending musical theatre with circus arts. Established in 2020, the company has grown into one of Finland’s most prominent contemporary circus ensembles, creating performances for diverse venues to make art more accessible.
