MARIA PAPACHRISTODOULOU (Greece)
Maria (1995) grew up on a Greek island. She is a performance artist, an architect and a tea addict based in Athens.
She holds an integrated master’s degree in architecture engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki(AUTH). Alongside architecture, she pursued a non-formal training in physical theatre, dance, voice, singing, and performance art through workshops led by renowned artists, including Matej Matejka, David Glass, Horacio Macuacua, Julianna Bloodgood, Euripides Laskaridis, Aliki Dourmazer, Nefeli Stamatogiannopoulou and Maria Lappa.
Since 2020, Maria has focused on physical theatre, working as a performer, assistant director, set and space advisor, and solo performance creator. Her recent work includes collaborating with JEUDi company on the physical theatre piece ROBA(2024) and presenting her solo performance Luzo(2023). In the past, she worked as set and space advisor for the site – specific dance performance Home Street Home(2020) by Barbara Bardaka at the Dance Days Chania International Festival. Over the years, she has also collaborated with performers, musicians, audiovisual artists, painters, and photographers.
Currently, her artistic research focuses on paradoxical connections between diverse elements of human experience, rituals and materials aiming to create absurd landscapes that feel both strange and deeply familiar. However, her main concern is that people delve into her worlds and derive a sense of connection from it.
Maria enjoys taking long walks with no headphones, to sketch and observe the textures, sounds and smells of the urban chaos, but her casual needs are a steaming cup of tea, soft sunlight and tender silence.
